We used to drive out to New York on New Year's eve and spend the evening in Times square. It was really fun. We either got a hotel room in New Jersey (Cheaper and more available) or slept int eh car (and once in Grand Central Station).

It was a really fun way to spend New Yers, but we were younger then and things like sleeping the the car were not a problem. If I were to go now, I would wnat a hotel room that I can walk to.

My parents hosted a New Year's Eve party at their home every year. Bonfire and a midnight cross country ski trek through the woods.

Toboggan rides, snowmobiles, and lots of good food to soak up the booze.

This year, my wife and I are gonna hang out at our friend's house in central Phoenix. Maybe I'll teach 'em how to play euchre.

One year we were there with 1 million other people. The people standing next to us were very nice and fun. We ended up sharing champagne so that we did not each open a bottle and have it get flat before it was gone. As we talked with them we said that they were awfully nice for New Yorkers given the reputation and our experience with New Yorkers who all seemed to be rude. They said that they were not from New York, they were from Michgian. We said "so are we." When they asked where, we said it is a tiny town, you will not have hear of it. They said they were also from a tiny town that no one ever hears about.

It turned out that we were all from South Lyon (then it was a tiny town). They knew my dad. They had seen my picture in the newspaper.

It was a bizzarre coincidence given that there were literally 1 million people in times square that year.
