Frankenmuth is probably what you are thinking of.

Never been there, but everyone loves it that has.

I loved that place.

I just got in a debate in a thread but I had to close it because it was becoming a punching match but a fellow North Carolinian didnt like how I would hire in the job I use to have to someone from Michigan over a Southerner because I think you have stronger work ethic. Not anything wrong with Southern workers but they can be to to laid back for me for a job that requires high energy at the time
you can read it if you want
http://www.city-data.com/forum/charl...ortherner.html I didnt start talking about Michigan til post #69
Thanks I gotta go backto Frankenmuth now maybe in the summer what a cool place

You should come around up north here more often, where the people are more polite.

Frankenmuth is a fun town, with great food. I like the Bavarian Inn, but there are also many smaller, less famous places with excellent food.

Last time that I drove through Frankenmuth, it screamed "tourist trap" to me.

When I was a kid, it was like a nice, small town in Germany.

Had my first taste of duck there when I was in college and on a date.

Frankenmuth is kind of kitchy. However it is still fun. There is another place a villiage thingy in Oakland County. They have a really neat glockenspiel.

WHen in Frankenmuth not so long ago, a store was advertising a sale on ear candles. I though that they meant candles made of ear wax (gross!). Turns out that they have candles that you stick in your ears and light them to get out the bad vapors! I am not kidding. It is called candling. Look it up. I burst out laughing every time I think of it. People really stick candles in their ears, light them and think that it is good for them. Maybe I should try it with Roman Candles.

Are you thinking of Canterbury Village in Lake Orion? It's fun, and they have some fun festivals, but very small scale.

Strap on your lederhosen and head to Gaylord. The town has no German or Swiss history but they do have an Alpenfest.
