I would like to hear from Veterans that bought a home using this benefit.
I'd like to know what your experience was like especially if you bought in recent years.
Especially after the offer was made and the weeks leading up to closing. Thanks
It has been about 3 years, but the process was easy. I'm not really sure what you're looking for- super vague question. The experience was as good as any. The weeks leading up to closing were normal I guess... we had to get an appraisal, but our realtor did that for us, we didn't really have to worry about it. And an inspection, but same thing, it just happened behind the scenes.
We used VA loans on our last two homes, and no problems, though we did have a substantial down payment. On the house we just moved into, the appraisal came in higher than our purchase price.

about 2 weeks ago had the draft paper work. got the final early this week.
This is after USAA told me that it would take 40-60 days to close with them and if that didn't work then find another lender (politely of course). so I did
Basically no problems and I hope this continues for 12 more hours. Letting myself uncross my fingers.
But: my finances and paperwork were easy to provide. I had everything in a box ready. They asked for ___x___ and I delivered it immediately. The house showed no inspection problems that the seller didn't fix one way or another. If there were delays on my part getting documentation or if the house had hidden cesspools then it could have been another story. Not fooling myself. Sometimes things just work better than others.

Thank you. Hope things work out for you as well
When a person gets to closing that should be it. Sign the papers and finish with the entire, miserable process of buying a home in America. You will be fine tomorrow and this time tomorrow the whole thing will be over with.
My Mortgage Company contacted me today. I have to account for a $500 deposit I made a week before Xmas. It was a Xmas gift from a relative. My relative has to show a statement showing a withdrawal from Thier acct to pay me the $5OO. I told the mortgage people I would send the money back, if it's a problem. I was told it's to late because it shows on my bank statement. Can you believe how petty this mortgage business is. A simple Xmas gift has to be investigated 2 weeks before closing.
So again tomorrow will be fine. Sign the papers get the keys and run don't walk to your new house.

It's probably common all this checking I know the mortgage people have their requirements, but some of the process is really way overboard. I also think they are vague with info such as closing costs. I do believe they have a good idea what the closing cost is after offers snd deposits are made. Yet In my experience they won't even give a hint. So the buyer is left wondering if it in the thousands or hundreds. Then the mortgage people want to know if the closing money is in the bank weeks before closing. Yet won't give an inkling as how much is needed in bank accts. I just think the process is not very professional for this day and age.
As for me I will be so glad when my journey with this purchase is all over with.
