Hello,

I was a native born Midwesterner and had been living in Texas since I was 12. In the near future, I was thinking about moving back to the Midwest since I was born in Iowa. Minneapolis was my choice of a Midwestern city. I did a lot of research and jobs pay higher in Minneapolis than Dallas (since the cost of living is more lower). Housing prices are sometimes higher there than in Big D. The crime rate in Dallas is higher and summers are hotter there while it does not get so cold that much during the winter and snows only once or twice there. Minneapolis gets very cold during the winter and most magazines state that it is a great place to raise a family. Both metros have great nightlife, schools, shopping (MSP has Mall of America), etc. What city should I choose?

Dallas because you don't freeze for 1/2 of the year. I was still wearing polarfleece yesterday.

Minneapolis since you don't have to spend half the year inside because it's too hot to breathe outside!

Minneapolis, where more emphasis is put on the quality of education than the square footage of your house. Everything is big in Texas, including the ego's.

It does get cold in MSP during the winter, but the summers are far greener and lush than DFW (plus much less humid). I have friends from TX who can't believe how our flowers and plants are still thriving in late July-August. Though their growing season begins much sooner, I don't have to spend money for termite control here. The mosquitoes may be a pain, but we have no problem with red ants. They seem to love TX !

LOL! Post a thread in the Minnesota section and you will get positive Minnesota replies!

Are you also posting this in the Texas forum?

ETA: I just went and checked; and you did post in the Texas forum too. This should be interseting!

Dallas is an armpit. Every time I've been there as a truck driver, I had pimps
pounding on the side of my door all night trying to sell me prostitutes. It is really
out of control down there. You wouldn't find that type of overthetop activity
in Minneapolis.

Although I reside in Minneapolis, I posted a reply to this thread in the Dallas forum.

Like another poster said, you will get many pro-MN replies here and many pro-Dallas replies there. There are pros and cons to both cities. It pretty much is all about personal preference.

Well this explains a lot about your negative attitude in MN. It was 84° here yesterday and you were wearing polarfleece??

I agree with the others, you have lived both places so you know what to expect. I guess it comes down to your choice, the 110° summers for weeks on end or the cooler temps in the winter, which can you tolerate more?

Sat night I went to the grocery store and I was freezing. Drove by the bank and it was 45! Went home and put on the polar fleece!
