In the 2010 census Minneapolis was 60% white.

3 hours? You might be able to get over to the Megamall and back in that time. I wouldn't try to hit Mpls.

I'd virtually never leave an airport on a 3 hr layover, especially in a large airport (Fargo, ND, or Cedar Rapids, IA might be a different story). Factor in 20 minutes to get out of the airport, leave 40 minutes to get through security, and plan on being at your gate ~30 minutes early and you don't have much time for sight-seeing. That's just me though, and I tend to error on the overly-cautious side.

3 hours is a bit tight but it probably could be done. I had a 4-hour layover in Atlanta a few years ago and took MARTA into downtown to walk around 5-Points and Peachtree Center. It takes about 25 minutes to get from the airport to downtown, but the good part of this is there's a Security Check-in very close to the LRT station that is not as busy as the main security check-in. So this should save you time on checking back-in. I'd familarize myself with the airport layout so you know where to go (note where it says Up to Skyway Security Checkpoint):

Minneapolis - St. Paul International Airport - maps

If you have time you could get off at the Warehouse District Station, walk down 1st Avenue to about 7th Street (site of the famed 1st Avenue nightclub), then walk to Hennepin and check out a few of the Theaters in the theater district, then head down 9th Street to Nicollet Mall, up the mall for a few blocks to Macy's/IDS Center then take the skyways to the Govt Ctr Station. If you walk fast you could do this in 45 minutes and head back with enough time to catch your plane.

Or, you could also check out the MOA too.

I couldn't find the exact source for 2010, but it seems the American Community Survey placed Minneapolis at about 70 percent white, but that includes Hispanic whites. If you only use non-Hispanic whites, they put Minneapolis at about 64 percent white.

I think your link above seems to agree with the second part of that (the non-Hispanic white makeup).

That's incorrect- stats can be found here. The total white population of Mpls (including Hispanic whites) in 2010 census is 63.8%- I don't have the data handy related to how many Hispanic whites are counted in the 63.8%, but I would assume this makes the non-Hispanic white makeup of Mpls closer to 60%.

Was catching up on the posts here and I would have to say that TechieGeek is spot on. After living in the Twin Cities for 20 yrs, I can concur with the generalizations that he/she made. This is not to say that the TC is a bad place to live. It really is a great place to live but we all have a different perspective of what's great. For me, I'm willing to take the trade off of more traffic, higher crime and higher housing cost to be in bigger metropolitan area where there is more access to more things that are important to me and my family. We played in safe for a long long time and I will always consider the TC a great place to live. For now, the needs of our family has changed.

No, that's completely incorrect. 60% non-white does NOT include all Hispanics. With the white-hispanic figure added it's probably less than 50% white, non-hispanic.

71,100 - Black
7,600 - Native American
21,600 - Asian
21,400 - Other
16,700 - 2+ races
40,100 - Hispanic

178,500 - Non-White/Hispanic

~47% of the total population, meaning 53% is white, non-hispanic.
