I think you'll find pretty widespread support for getting rid of Sunday liquor laws (or just apathy about the issue). The problem is that the only people really lobbying the issue is the state liquor association (or whatever they're called) and they don't want the change because they get a government-mandated day off.

If people like to tipple that much, how come they don't keep a supply? I'm for liquor available anywhere anytime, but when an offsale place closes, I don't lose it. I mean, face it, I can go get a glass about 15 places in my neighborhood if its that important. What I REALLY mind is the extra tax on liquor for some cockamamie favor they did for business some time ago. I buy a bottle of wine and suddenly 9 or 10 percent tax!! Absurd. If it funded rehab for addicts, that might make some sense. But is that really where the money goes?

How many people actually lose it? That's why the laws haven't changed...people want it changed, but they're apathetic enough that if it doesn't happen, they aren't going to explode.

Well, I think it hasn't changed because hardly anybody is severely inconvenienced. Too many ways around it around for so long that it only really bugs a small number of people, and even they don't care enough to push for a change. I know the liquor interests would love it if even 5 percent of the population really cared. They WANT another day to sell booze. But it is a minor annoyance. Maybe people just plan ahead too well. For shame.

"What? What do you mean you didn't get any alcohol yesterday? Today's Sunday."

This isn't so much "hate about Minneapolis" as "hate when warm weather comes". Trash is not only in the streets in large amounts as people cruise more, it is more visible. Makes the city look like a trailer park. And people decide they not only must play their pop music in their cars, they have to crank it to the max, and open the car windows. Noise pollution!! Cities are noisy to start with. Its just insult on top of injury. I suppose if I lived somewhere south of this metro, it'd be yearlong. Like frosting with bits of dirt in it. Sweet except when you are spitting out the dirt!

Wisconsin's just down the road and while you're at it pick up some cheddar and a trunk full of fireworks.

It's the same thing I hate most in just about any city:the dating scene. Guys are either too gay or way too gay. Do you have to fake a lisp, like ****ty music, and be as annoying as a ditzy college girl? Because if I wanted that, I'd date a ditzy college girl. Everything else is great (save the windy -20 days): the lakes, cycling, cool neighborhoods, people, stuff to do in said neighborhoods, transit, late night happy hours, etc. It's everything you'd want in a city, just surprisingly compact and consistent across the board. And then as a bonus there's St Paul.
