Wow... I'm moving to Minneapolis in September and after reading this thread I'm wondering what attitude I will end up with towards winter. I'm from Toronto, so I expect it to be colder but not too much. I am planning, however, to buy myself the warmest winter jacket I have ever owned in my life! It is my gift to myself for choosing to go to school somewhere colder than where I now live. The parka will cost a small fortune, but I expect it will be worth every penny!!
In terms of outdoor hobbies, I hope to take up cross country skiing. Do people downhill ski much in Minnesota?

Your attitude to the cold might vary. I don't know. I think Minnesota has the Mesabi Range in the Arrowhead region. I would check this out: http://www.skisite.com/downhillList.cfm?state=MN

There are a few decent ski areas, some marginal ones and Lutsen which is pretty good.

I'm so jealous. It's 55F here, and it was up in the 80's on Monday. It's too soon for summertime!

Looks like it's -2 F now. But on the bright side....it's sunny! And it will be 44 F on Sunday.

No, not really. But I've commented on that before. I much prefer cold weather to weather in the 90's, and I miss MN winters.

What about Texas to Minnesota? Is there anyone that has found a conversion from the Humid Subtropics to the Cold Continental temps doable?

Like I said, its nice on a micro-scale, like coming from someone from Georgia, -8 might not seem bad. However, this winter has been harsh, and its not even slightly fun trying to deal with negative temps for over 4 months.
