I was in Minneapolis last weekend. The traffic on the freeways was fairly light, certainly busier than Duluth but not any inconvenience.

It can get very bad during the week though.

I think traffic in Mpls is much worse than it *should* be for a metro of it's size...However, I think there tends to be more congestion on the south end of town. If you need 62, 35W, or 494, sort of a too bad, so sad.

Just out of downtown and fairly far north, 94 has like 5 lanes on each side so it's smooth...but Mpls must be home to the bottleneck because then it decreases to 2 (if I am not mistaken) once it splits at 694.

394 East - YIKES!!!! West isn't usually too bad. Same with 62. Headed East?? Feel for ya...

For the most part, people who live in suburban Minneapolis, (with exception to those with easy access to I-394) ... i.e. Eden Prairie, Edina, Richfield, Eagan, Bloomington, Burnsville, etc... complain mostly about TWO major bottlenecks during rush hour - I 35W at I 494, and MN 62 at 35W, which, being somebody who lives in the aforementioned area, is an absolute joke if you really look at it.. ONE lane to merge into? I mean, seriously. BUT, that is under construction right now, and hopefully will be taken care of. But I do beleive that its very spotty- you might be going full speed for one stretch, near another busy exit (like for example Cedar Ave (MN 77) and 494 by MSP and the Mall, and then slow down.. I agree - much like any other large city ive been to.
