Hey there, I'm a 22 years old and I'm graduating college in May and moving to Minneapolis. I was just wondering what neighborhoods would be best to live in for young professionals. I have heard that downtown and uptown would be good, any suggestions?

Depends on your budget, where you'll be working, and your preference in neighborhoods. You'll find lots of fellow young professionals in either area, though, and lots of things to do, restaurants and bars to visit, etc.

My job is on East Hennepin Ave in the industrial area and my budget is around $800 max.

If you can find a space in the North Loop that's pretty much considered "Twinsville" now and if you love baseball I think you'd be in heaven! Also, that's very close to the major bar/club drag in the Twin Cities (if you're into that).

You might want to consider the Northeast/St. Anthony area on the other side of the river from downtown; there's a lot going on there, too. Otherwise you'll be able to find something in your budget in Uptown (a decent 1BR is definitely doable for under $800), and in some parts of downtown. Being NE, though, (at least in that bit of NE right by the river; it's quieter farther out) would put you that much closer to work and still give you an interesting area that will give you lots of the same benefits that you'd find somewhere like Uptown.

I second northeast, great/fun area. My beef with NE has been the housing stock - hard to find a decent place IMO.

I cant imagine you can afford much at all downtown.

Check out the new/newer lofts, apts and condos on University Avenue near 280. Not sure of the price, but probably lower than Uptown.

That was our beef with NE, too, along w/ it feeling too industrial in most places, although we were never too seriously considering it. If you're in the market to purchase kcitti, cross over the river to the northside- more park space, better housing stock, close to everything.

I had the same problem back when I was looking at houses in NE, couldn't find anything I liked there. What's up with that?
