Whites the minority in Mississippi?? (Jackson, Vicksburg: living in, statistics, firm)

Hi people,
please don´t take this as a troll thread. I would be grateful if you just said me yes or no and the disscussin could end.

I´m confused about the demographics. According to 2010 census and according to wikipedia, Mississippi is 37% black and the rest are whites and others.
However, I read a disscussion where somebody (white person) said "since we are the minority." Plus on Youtube I saw a comment stating that blacks are 80% of the population.

So, is the census accurate or not? I belive that these people didn´t see the statistics but I´m not sure about that cuz I heard that the government don´t tell the exact number of african americans living in America.

Anyway, I hope I won´t insult anybody. Thank you...

Census is correct.

Whites are a minority in some areas. Blacks are a minority in some areas.

Most of us are firm enough in our self image, confident enough in our strength, and fair enough in our judgment of others to not care a whit one way or the other.

Don't ever believe anything you see in youtube comments. Youtube commenters are, on average, the stupidest people on the entire internet.

No. Whites are the majority in MS. See the Census 2010 figures here:

As you can see, whites represent 59% of the total state population, whereas blacks represent 37%. MS is also the state with the highest percentage black population. Second would be Louisiana with 32%.

One thing you have to remember here or make sure to differentiate is urban or rural settings. In Vicksburg, and Jackson whites are definitely the minority however once you get outside city limits whites abound! However I have only lived in Vicksburg and MS in general for 7 years.. but I'll disagree wholeheartedly with the Census findings.

I don't know where they get these figures but yes whites are a minority in most places in MS.
