Test was conducted in mid-October:

Mosquitoes test positive for West Nile virus in Poplar Bluff

Quote:
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. • Health officials say mosquitoes in the Poplar Bluff area have tested positive for the West Nile virus.
Butler County Health Department officials told The Poplar Bluff Daily American Republic that the mosquitoes that tested positive were found in mid-October in a trap set as part of a surveillance program. The health department conducts the testing annually.

Well if this was going to happen anywhere in Missouri it would be in Poplar Bluff. Bad mosquito problem there.

Good thing winter's coming...we won't have to worry as much about this for the next couple of months. But next summer...

That is a problem most anywhere mosquitoes live. Poplar Bluff does not own West Nile virus.

Does seem rather high compared to the rest of the state. Maybe they can spray to get rid of them, or of course, winter will do it's best too.

Lots of rice fields down there. That's why this isn't much of a surprise.

That makes sense--maybe winter weather will kill those little buggers until next year. West Nile is nasty. My brother was quite sick with it once.
