I will be in the Mobile area for a few days next week. I will be spending most of my time driving around bird watching. Bon Seceur, 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center, Dauphin Island/Pelican Island.
Wondering if there are any not to be missed local diners etc. I'm signed up for a Lower Mobile Tensaw Cruise so I'm hoping that's nice.
Right now I have a hotel in Fairhope that is supposed to be centrally located to basically a lot of driving, but may spend my last night somewhere closer to Dauphin Island or maybe out by Fort Morgan.
I'm assuming I can get lunch supplies pretty much anywhere.
Never been in the area or spend any time in the south at all so I have no idea what to expect. Is the whole area pretty built up, lots of traffic? (I hate traffic, especially when i don't know the area and am most likely lost)
Weather looks to be hottttt!

Giesela,

You can find all kinds of supplies in several locations on the Eastern Shore. Fairhope has a Publix, Winn Dixie, Walmart and Piggly Wiggly. There are also quite a variety of good restaurants in Fairhope.

I suggest you take a leisurely drive on Scenic 98...starting at Daphne(veer off from the 4 lane 98). It's a very pretty drive and once you get to Fairhope, go down to the pier and park. Continue on scenic 98 and you'll see and appreciate the beauty of the area. At the pier, BTW, there are many bird houses...bird hotels.. and you'll appreciate that. Try to catch a sunset. They are usually awesome, as it all faces west.

Scenic 98 is not built up at all...just beautiful homes and tree lined streets. You'll also not find too much traffic. The freeway between Mobile and here can get congested at times. You can use I-10 or the parallel road...with no problem.

Enjoy your visit! This area is beautiful and not what many people expect Alabama can be this pretty. Fairhope is paradise to many of us who came from big cities full of traffic and bad attitudes. Have a great time!

If you do decide on the Fort Morgan birding areas, be sure to call ahead for a place to stay. October is the "mini season" and sometimes rooms are scarce. Also, the annual shrimp festival in Gulf Shores is Oct. 10-13 this year, and rooms will be at a premium then, too. Fairhope is not that far to drive from for a day of bird watching down here, maybe 40 to 50 minutes, depending on traffic. Using Waze or Google Maps, you can take back roads and avoid the busiest roads, mostly AL59.

Eat at:
Market By The Bay Cafe (great local seafood on Highway 98 in Fairhope)
Red or White in Fairhope (wine and good finger food)
Bucks Dinner (local dinner in Fairhope)
Pelican Patio (downtown Fairhope)

Well, I usually get by this site more often but I missed this post. Assuming your trip is over, unfortunately I am unable to add my thoughts.

I would be interested in know what you did find and how it went. I know many areas you mentioned well and they all have hidden special places.

Hope to see you post again, and sorry I did not get to share some info.
