I am an Alaskan skate skier looking to visit Montana towns with ski trails groomed for skate skiing. I do have the link to the Montana nordic ski trails and know that Whitefish has a groomed nordic/skate skiing trail right on their golf course.

I don't cross contry ski, only downhill but I really don't think that the skate style of nordic skiing is all that popular here yet.

bozeman has a ski trail going right through the center of it, and a few hundred miles of trail around it. only about 20 or so is groomed from what i can remember. the levels of these trails are all over the board from beginner to almost downhill. even pete's hill in town has a mile or so of trail. mike.

I'll definitely second Bozeman. Bozeman is one of the snowiest towns in Montana (only remote, tiny towns like West Yellowstone and Red Lodge get more snow) so the trails are usually in good shape throughout the winter.

well i think most towns have a trail or two, especially in south west montana. you will have to research each town individually since this kind of info is kind of obscure. i still find trails around town which i didn't know existed. i don't think you will have a problem with finding nordic trails. montanans like to get out and not everyone snowmobiles or downhills. but if you come out to bozeman this winter i would suggest bozeman creek trail up to mystic lake for cross country. ten miles up, ten miles down, and it is a fast ten miles down! especially on xcountry!

nice, i had no idea there were that many. i know of 4. i am a little confused though. is skate skiing the same as xcountry on groomed trails? if that is the case, we do have a ton of those.

skate skiing
No- skate skis are special skis, different from cross-country or track skis. You actually skate with them rather than the diagonal stride of cross-country. It is a very strenuous sport, especially up hills!
