I've been doing some research, and our churches retired pastor moved there and also said it's gone downhill.
Homelessness/crime is pretty rampant, over 1,000 "unhoused" in Billings at last count. Others are saying this is occurring in Great Falls and many other Montana cities.
Is Montana joining the left coast?

Lots of out of staters moving in there.

Same problems.

Homelessness is a national issue.

https://wisevoter.com/state-rankings...tion-by-state/

FL and TX are 3rd and 4th highest in the country.

Now crime? Yes Billings is high from what I’ve read.

Great Falls has had an increasing homeless population for some time now. These are people with mental and drug addiction problems for the most. For sober people there is lots of help available. As with being anywhere you need to be aware of your surroundings and be ready to deal with problem people. If you are ready and aware it goes a long ways. If you don't want your kids bikes stolen don't leave them in the front yard and things like that. I think all Montana cities have some dangerous people in them but you can normally avoid them by staying clear of losers and avoid things like road rage or those kinds of problems.

The billionaires chased the millionaires out of Bozeman, Missoula, and Kalispell. Maybe they're coming to Great Falls and Billings. Housing prices go up and people can't afford to live there. Then people visit Montana and think it's a permanent vacation and aren't prepared for the cost of living. Give it ten years, twenty at the most and Montana will be Colorado.

I had a look at the police reports map, it looked pretty bad. But one question is how bad? The "homeless" here in WA seem to be hardened criminals, burglarizing, car theft, raping, stabbing, and burning. Gone are the days where a chill homeless guy would stand there with a sign "why lie I need a beer". They're not just taking advantage of unlocked doors or bikes left on the front lawn. Worse yet, the only right we have is a "duty to retreat" from a threat until we're absolutely cornered.

Florida and Texas are the 2nd and 3rd highest populated states in the country. It's only natural they would rank in the Top 4 states with the highest homeless population.

If you read the statement of the poster I was replying to, that homelessness was a left coast issue, then you may understand the stats and my response.

Please read.

Flathead is seeing a big upswing in displaced people, and it's not just MT - this is happening all over the West.

Our forests will likely have more than the usual share of squatters this season, and not enough enforcement to stay on top of it.

A nice, deep recession/depression should sort things out if the Fed has the stones to do what needs to be done.

So much for Yellowstone propping up Montana's profile.

Are these homeless like Cali's homeless in that, they are coming from everywhere else?
