Another film I don't like is Taxi Driver, the reason being, DeNiro's character is too simple -- it seems he did the things he did more as a matter of being confused about society rather than trying to be its steward, as many fans of the film claim.
Count me in as another who can't comprehend why Fight Club is always in the top half of 'best movies of all time'. I also don't get the appeal of most Adam Sandler or Will Ferrell comedies. Including Anchorman.
A movie I love that's universally panned: Hudson Hawk. It's a stupid movie, but you can tell they were having a blast wasting all that money.

It's both, which is why I love the movie. Travis is completely clueless about society. He's pretty obviously mentally disturbed as well. And yet because of a bizarre set of circumstances, society hails him as a hero. The point of the movie is less about Travis than about the cluelessness of society. Very 1970s.
I hated No Country for Old Men. HATED it. Saw absolutely no redeemable quality in it. I think I am the only one.
TotallyTam totally agrees! Plus, I hate seeing Javier Bardem in the psycho killer role. (His recent role in 007's Skyfall was also the psycho--eeek!). But absolutely LOVE him in romantic or dramatic leads.
Just about any newer movie that seems to be popular generally does nothing for me. That doesn't hold true 100% of the time, but pretty close. But I really enjoy a lot of old movies (1950s and older) that are almost universally praised, like Citizen Kane, Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, Casablanca, etc. Come to think of it, my taste is similar with music.
I wonder if my tastes haven't drastically changed.
I have a hard time sitting through anything longer than an hour and a half - it REALLY has to hold my attention.
And stuff I used to watch and appreciate (artsy fartsy) like Red or Farewell My Concubine, etc, in college...omg, I can't sit through that garbage anymore.
