It seems as if the members of the cast really enjoyed each other's company.

Sure. There are elements of "remakes" in this film: e.g., Black Lagoon, Beauty and The Beast. Regardless, this is a unique, special, and wonderful film on many levels.

We just saw this today, what a beautiful movie. I loved every minute of it. It's interesting that they cast Michael Shannon as Strickland, his role was so similar to the one he played as Nelson Van Alden in Boardwalk Empire.
Watched this tonight on BluRay. Awful, just awful. This won an Oscar?
