My take on The Joker was always that he really is sane but hides behind a mask of insanity to keep his enemies off balance and unable to get an understanding of him. Its his coping mechanism for doing what he does. If he's crazy, he isn't to blame. Maybe there's no feeling there at all, its all an act to cover up what he feels he lacks.
If I were to do a Joker movie, I'd have him in Arkham Asylum and being completely rational, completely the opposite of every other time we've seen him. Boringly sane. Chillingly sane. Waiting for him to drop the sane act and go full mayhem if he is planning an escape. The last Joker was so badly portrayed.
Have him discussing his past and actions and looking at being tried for murder if found sane to stand trial. Just go deep into who he is as a person, why he does what he does. I just can't see him as some yutz driven to insanity and evil.
I say there are Fake Reviews. People are paid off to push a movie because the studios have fortunes riding on them and are highly placed geopolitically. Star Wars. Mad Max. The Black Panther. Get Out. By the time word of mouth gets out and people really wonder what made these movies so great, most of the money has been spent at the box office.
I'm definitely going to watch. The word that keeps coming to my mind is "disturbing." I almost get chills just by watching the trailer. It almost seems somewhat explanatory of how certain local "terrorists" come into being. We should watch and think.
