My daughter and I went to go see O8 (at her request). I thought the caper was interesting enough, but the movie definitely lacked the lighthearted feel of O11. It took itself way too seriously, to its detriment.
I liked it. It kept me engaged the entire time and the twists at the end were a great surprise.
What twist?

An acrobat doing some stunts that no one saw. Everything going like clockwork once again (making a group that was supposed to be top level surveillance look like the 3 stooges). That's not a twist.
Again, just absolutely no suspense whatsoever. If they wanted to make things interesting and at least keep the viewer a little on edge, have them have to scramble and come up with something innovative to get them out of a jam when something doesn't go exactly as planned (again, nothing goes this smoothly).
Remaking a classic movie is 1 thing. However, when you re-make to the point of changing the race/ethnicity or gender of a character, I think the writers spent too much time on ID politics than perhaps making it an enjoyable movie.
It's NOT a remake. It's a continuation of the family story. The Ocean family are thieves. Danny had his string of movies. Now we are getting his sister's story.
I said this to a few people when the female version of ghost busters was released that if you go to these movies where Hollywood simply keeps the plot but changes the gender of the characters you're simply encouraging Hollywood to be lazy and think they can get by without even trying to think of anything new. Plus it re-enforces to Hollywood that the general public is stupid and will go see anything. Also helps further this new hyper PC fad that America is currently going through.
Stop going to these movies. Make Hollywood do some work.

The movie wasn't funny. The Clooney Ocean movies kept you laughing and were full of witty, memorable lines. Ocean's 8 has almost zero memorable lines. And it's a bit unfortunate that the funniest person in the movie is a man, the insurance investigator. He was only on the screen for 5 minutes or so total but had the most memorable scenes.
I thought the dumbest part was the beginning when she was talking to the parole board, she says something to the effect of "my brother Danny was a con man, I never wanted that life", what a DUH moment!
Not to mention them just breezing over her fencing the jewelry, they would be lucky to get $100K on the black markt!
