This re-imaged live action theme has critics and audience with rave reviews in its premieres. Where do you stand on this? How will it compare to Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin remakes?
Technically it's still animated. They didn't use real merfolk
Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and little mermaid were all animated remakes to begin with. Cinderella, obviously, was the French fairytale of the same name. Cendrillon was both a Rossini and Strauss opera (Everything but the mice and birds come from there). There were at least 16 Cinderella movies before Walt - Melies did one in 1899. Little Mermaid 89 was at least the 7th movie, and there were 8 TV adaptations.
Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast were more direct remakes of earlier work. Beauty and the Beast is a direct adaption of La Belle et le Bete, and Aladdin pulls the majority from the 1940 The Thief of Bagdad.
I threw down 12.75 for a late night showing.
My attention span in theaters has me pacing the lobby after an hour.
It was ok.
Spoiler alert.... there are mermaids of every color, gender, size, race, etc at the end....just in case that may trigger you.
It's true they're often drawing conclusions from the skin color of the main character. That's because when there's such an obvious and gratuitous "race-swap" of a main character -- irrespective of whether it affects the context of the story in any way -- you can be sure the rest of the film has been clumsily adapted for the "modern audience."
What's with that black spot above Ariel's eyebrow? Melanoma? She's spent too much time above the surface without sunscreen, I guess...

Didn't trigger anybody. Furious 10 ha Vin diesel, Jason Momoa and some black stars in not familiar with and that movie is doing gangbusters.
Is it just Disney fans that are racist? I haven't noticed that.
No I think the claim that people care about the race of the actors in the film is to try to explain away the poor reviews.
I could have done without seeing that first thing in the morning.
And the movie is a hard pass for me.
