The Home Alone movies
Elf
The Santa Clause
Nightmare Before Christmas
Jingle All The Way
Bad Santa
Any Christmas movie that is R rated (and most of them that are PG-13)
Any Christmas movie with a "Bah Humbug!" kind of theme or plot
Btw, I don't like the Home Alone movies or The Santa Clause because movies that feature, imo, bratty kids are a real turn-off for me.
In short, I like movies that leave me with a good feeling, and I also prefer nostalgic ones.
P.S. I also agree with the OP about The Grinch for the same reasons s/he said.
P.P.S. I forgot to add a TV movie, "The Man Who Saved Christmas" to the list above because it was based on the life of A.C. Gilbert (credited with the invention of Erector sets), but they took so many liberties with the truth in so many ways that it was a complete turn-off for me. Btw, I hate it when this is done with ANY movie, not just Christmas ones!
Agree with all of it. Home Alone was kind of cute, at least the first one. I mainly liked it because when Macauley Culkin and my son were that age (at that same time) they looked almost exactly alike.
I doubt I would like Elf, although it seems to be popular with a lot of people. I won't watch anything with Will Ferrell in it. (I turned off Talladega Nights in less than 5 minutes.) Bah Humbug!

FWIW, I don't like Will Ferrell, either, but love Elf. Only thing I can stand him in.

I watched Home Alone in the theater as a child. I think one's perception of movies, Christmas movies in particular, is very different if one watched them at a very young age. Christmas as a child is on a whole different level than Christmas as an adult.
regarding theatrical release movies and not TV/Netflix/etc. shows....
Miracle On 34th Street.
why: moralizing.
Are you talking about the following or something else? Quote from movie:
Quote:
Alfred, Macy janitor: Yeah, there's a lot of bad 'isms' floatin' around this world, but one of the worst is commercialism. Make a buck, make a buck. Even in Brooklyn it's the same - don't care what Christmas stands for, just make a buck, make a buck.

1947 when the movie first came out was a very different time. It wasn't considered moralizing at the time, and largely isn't now. It's a feel good story. Not sure where you get "moralizing" from.
Can we talk about bad Christmas songs? Like Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.
