Yeah I Just watched The Burning Plain
It is the best gay-themed movie. It is a fantastic drama movie wonderfully directed and written by Guillermo Arriaga. A romantic mystery about a mysterious woman Sylvia (Charlize Theron), who is a house manager at a fancy restaurant. The effect on this movie is fabulous and its story is very enjoyable.
I watched "Hurt Locker" last nite. It was very good, excellent acting, emotional - it was good especially for those that enjoy movies pertaining to war. Just a note it is quite graphic, with one scene in particular.
I saw "I Can Do Bad All By Myself" tonite and I really enjoyed it. Taraji Henson is a superb actress and unlike many of the other actresses Tyler Perry has chosen as his leads, she is a true natural and it just comes thru in this movie. Of course if you love Madea you will like her in this one, though the story doesnt revolve around her, but she still has a lot of great lines! "I will choke you out - say it again - say it - I dare you!"
I watched "Dirty Harry" last night. Great Don Siegel directed film. This pretty much pioneered the new era of the cop as anti-hero who values justice over the law. You can't flip a cable channel on these days that doesn't have a movie with a character that rips off Harry Callahan either on or coming up, but in 1971, this was pretty revolutionary stuff. The flower power hippie revolution of the 60s was definitely over and films like this and "Taxi Driver" showed the disillusion with society which could be seen as a fallout from the hippie movement (although I seriously doubt Clint or Siegel ever put flowers in their hair.).
That is a very good movie - I persuaded hubby to watch it a few months ago and it was probably one of the only movies I've seen him watch all the way through without fidgeting!!!!!
I watched Ordinary People and A Steetcar Named Desire - couldn't believe how amazing the acting was in the latter - Vivien Leigh and Marlon Brando were spectacular!!!!!
