My five favorite are:
1)Patton
2)Apocalypse Now
3)Red Badge of Courage
4)The Battle of The Bulge
5)All Quiet on the Western Front
I'd have to go with Saving Private Ryan. Another good one would be Patton. Here's one you don't see on many war movies list, yet it is just about as good as they come... Glory. Another one that is good if maybe not great, that goes overlooked, Sahara with Bogart.
-Idi i Smotri (Come and See)
-Der Untergang (The Downfall)
-All Quiet On the Western Front
-Europa Europa
-Stalingrad
-Full Metal Jacket
-Catch 22
-Apocalypse Now
-Paths of Glory
-Battle of Algiers
-Die Blechtrommel (The Tin Drum)
-Katyn
-The Grey Zone
-Das Boot
I just loved it and it was unexpected. Interesting how you are actually hoping for the submarine to make it through everything; but it does give a riveting portrayal of the general futility of war. Here's a great war flick; but with a "lighter note". KELLY'S HEROES>>>
