Note: I'm taking the word "overrated" here literally, as in these artists won critical acclaim and are (or were) heralded as extraordinary or rare talent. Many of the generic "pop tarts" a lot of members here are listing have either been bashed in the press as having no talent or are generally written off by adults as teenybopper stuff. Same with some of the hair bands. I think Bret Michaels himself would tell you no Poison album ever received a good review.

Pearl Jam and Nirvana, by far. Coldplay, since every song I hear sounds just like the last one, but somehow they pack 'em in.
Can't forget Depeche Mode. I'll never understand how such simplistic (and subpar) tunes, paired with mouth-fulla-marbles vocals, propelled them to megastardom.
Bruce Springsteen. And, yes, the Beatles.
Who on Earth would think Rush is overrated, though? Great music made by three guys — each one regarded as an outstanding player — who sound like a quintet. There aren't many guys or girls who can sing lead and simultaneously kill on their bass/guitar the way Geddy Lee can.
I have yet to see, hear, or understand the appeal with Adele.
Me too!
