1992:

* Check Your Head / Beastie Boys
* Dirt / Alice in Chains
* 99.9 F° / Suzanne Vega

Most likely Automatic for the People by R.E.M. and Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos as well, but I haven't heard all of them yet.

You may wonder why a lifelong KISS fan such as m'self hasn't included Destroyer and Rock And Roll Over on such a list. My reasoning is simple. I don't much care for the original band. Peter Criss stinks up everything he plays (badly) and (allegedly) sings on. They became a much better group once they kicked him to the kerb and brought in the late Eric Carr. I've got flayed alive on several forums for suggesting the classic lineup are anything less than gods, but I calls 'em like I sees 'em.
As much as I love Kiss circa 1974-1977, I love Eric Carr's drumming. I sometime fantasize how much better Kiss would have been if Eric Carr as their original drummer. Having said that, I like Peter Criss voice; sounded like Rod Stewart.

I'm right there with you. Besides the chorus fill in Cold Gin, Peter did nothing that Eric Carr or Singer couldn't play better with their eyes shut and both hands tied behind their backs.

1961: Not a stellar year for music, but give it 2-3 years and everything opened up tremendously!

Breakfast at Tiffanys by Henry Mancini
The Amazing James Brown by James Brown

Well, I'm not complaining too much about the offerings of 1966, but I think those born in '67, '68 or '69 get a little more street cred for music of their birth year. For '66, times were changing and it was a transitional year for music. That spring John Lennon made the remark "The Beatles are bigger than Jesus" for which he regretted, and that fall he had to backpedal and make some statements to the press, in an attempt to smooth that over, but it was a rough year for them. An interesting tidbit, that year Herb Alpert outsold the Beatles 2 to 1, at one point Herb Alpert had 5 albums on the pop charts simultaneously, and won 4 grammy's that year. The only Herb Alpert song I think is really top notch, Rise from 1979. Bob Dylan also had problems with his fans that year, when he switched to electric guitar, guess they got over it. Jimmy Page joins the Yardbirds that summer, very close to my B'day, that was an awesome step for Jimmy Page and Rock 'N Roll. Cream gets started that year, & The Monkees too. The Beach Boys were quite busy that year, putting out 1 great album and Good Vibrations single, The Ronettes also broke up that year, sorry Howard.

Some of my favorite songs of 1966,

Simon & Garfunkel - Sounds of Silence
The Byrds - 8 Miles High
The Stones - Paint It Black, Under My Thumb, Mothers Little Helper, 19th N Breakdown
Them - Gloria
Jimmy Hendrix - Hey Joe
Beach Boys - Good Vibrations, Sloop John B, Wouldn't It Be Nice
Paul Revere & The Raiders - Kicks
The Standels - Dirty Water
The Troggs - Wild Thing
Four Tops - I'll Be There (Reach Out)
Supremes - You Cant Hurry Love
Neil Diamond - Cherry Cherry

Probably have to say my favorite of all those singles is Sounds of Silence, It holds the test of time, but so does Dirty Water, Kicks, Hey Joe & All those Stones songs I mentioned. I will give it to the Stones for Aftermath Album, for having the largest number of top notch songs that year, even if they weren't all on that same album.

1975:

Parliament: Mothership Connection
War; Why Can't We Be Friends?
Yabby You - Conquering Lion
Burning Spear: Marcus Garvey
Bruce Springsteen: Born to Run

Honestly there were a lot of good albums released in the mid-70s but '75 seemed to be an off-year for a lot of my favorite artists from that era (James Brown, Bob Marley, the Ohio Players, Black Sabbath, etc).

I was born in 1992.

Really bad year for music, as were the early 90s in general.
