I dunno I've been here 25 years and it seems to me lately the crime is just going up and up.. Between that guy who decapped his gf or whatever in Palm River two weeks ago, a bank robbery every day for 4 days straight now, two shootings at Physicians Regional, the kid trying to stab others at school (and the list goes on) it seems like times are getting a bit too desperate here in Collier.. Anyone else feeling this way?

I don't think that any one area can be singled out to note an increase in crime and/or violent behavior.
Sadly, I'd almost challenge you to find a place where there isn't one.

Actually, according to crime reports Naples is higher in B&E, theft etc. Higher than national. I would think there could be an increase in violent, as issues increase. Check crimereports.com and do a 6 mnth window. Also check other sites on stats.

However, I wouldn't go on the news. Just reported crime stats. The issue there is are crimes being reported accurately? Fl appears to be a high crime state, so I wouldn't be surprised by this.

I'm simply singling it out because its where I live, I mean I don't live anywhere else so I tend to pay attention to Naples. We just had another bank robbery yesterday thats what 5 or 6 days in a row of bank robberies. I know I certainly don't remember it being like this growing up here, or even a couple years ago when the economy was down (of course it still is but u know what I mean.) Anyways I guess I was just seeing i anyone felt the same as me or if maybe I'm just paying more attention to it than I used to and didn't realize.

Yeah, I have noticed a lot more bank robberies and people getting involved in selling drugs - basically the news covers it. I was thinking when I started seeing so many bank robberies "this is what this world is coming to" because people can't find jobs. There are a lot of people out there who are going through some difficult times, but I don't think crime is the answer.

The "census" permanent population for Collier County was recently announced as around 320,000. If that's true, it's a 25-30% increase since 2000, and certainly more since 1985.

It's possible that on an absolute count level, crime is up, however measured against the # of population it may be the same.

I have noticed a lot more bank robberies and theft recently. Quite a lot of domestic violence/disputes as well. Other types of violent crime doesn't seem to have risen much however. I guess with the economy continuing to tank people are resorting to stealing everything :/

The crimereports.com supposedly is from actual reports, but wouldn't include those not reported. It also only goes to 6mnths. However, even according to crime rates I looked at prior to recent ones, the Naples "property crime" has always been high. (above national)

When air conditioners, plumbing, gutters and wiring is being stolen, things are bad.

I worry more about crime now than ever before. I agree with DanBev, all over people have lost their jobs, lost their savings and lost their homes. There is plenty of desperation out there and a place like Naples historically viewed as safe and insulated has some extra problems with the severe gradient between the rich and the poor and given the financial wreckage from the crazy run up in real estate values.
