Is the Lely Area good. I keep finding alot of houses for rent inside this development. Is it near beach, shopping and dining?

It is a nice area and it is close to downtown, Marco, etc. If you have kids, though, beware, the schools are terrible all over Collier County and even more so in that area in particular.

There are two areas named Lely.

The plain "Lely" generally refers to the original area. It has mostly older (~late 70s and up) homes and condos. The area is very large and there are many little subdivisions. All are nice and safe.

The newer "Lely Resort" is adjacent to the original. It is VERY large and also has many smaller communities. It is very upscale. This area was developed starting in the mid 80s and grew exponetially since then.

There is an area called Naples Manor that sits next to the original Lely. This is a run down, economically depressed immigrant area that I would stay away from.

The Lely area is close to shopping and dining. The beach would be a bit far depending on what you are looking for. Probably about 30 minutes to Naples, depending on traffic and parking. About 45 minutes to Marco, especially in season.

The other poster is correct about the schools.

I am considering moving to Lely Resort. Could anyone suggest the best gated communities within Lely Resort for villas?
