I am moving from Cincinnati to Nashville this summer. I'm looking for a decent and affordably apartment complex in the area of East. I would like to find something that is a short cab ride to the Cannery, and also walking-ish distance to 5 Points. I'm a full time student so I'm on a budget, and I'm single so safety is important as well. I know the quality of the neighborhood can vary from street to street and apartment complexes are few and far between. Does any one have any recommendations as to places I should be looking at? I plan on driving down sometime in the next 2 weeks to view a few.

There are not very many apartment complexes near Five Points and the ones that are there tend to be the smaller, older ones instead of the big, sprawling communities you'll see further away from the heart of the city. You may want to try the small complex across the street from Meigs Magnet. I believe they are called East River Place, but I would have to ask. I have a cousin that lives there and I'm totally jealous of the quality of her space for the price and her views of downtown when I visit. Those are brand, spanking new with gated parking in the back, entries that require key access, stainless steel appliances, kitchen islands and balconies. They replaced an old, run-down complex about a year or so ago (you can still see the old one on Google maps so don't let that cloud your judgment). I do know those apartments have some sort of income-restrictions so you will want to make sure they accept full-time students.

Anyway, I know those are a short walk to Five Points, nice and reasonably priced. I think you are going to have to be really be diligent about tracking something down otherwise as Nashville is in an apartment crunch especially in trendy areas. Places are getting waitlisted or snatched up quickly. If you have the opportunity to explore, then make sure you have a pen and pad to take down numbers of places with "for rent" signs that you pass. Check the usual places like craigslist, padmapper, realtracs, etc. Also, check your university resources as well. If you don't mind sharing space, also consider looking for listings for roommates. There are many nice homes around the E. Nashville neighborhoods that may have rooms to rent. Good luck on your visit!

Here is a link to a website about it. Online reviews NOT good but people only usually bother writing reviews when they are mad . . .

But here is a link anyway!

Apartments out East are bad news to be honest.

Riverchase, Litton, marina manor east, and Dellway Villa are more like projects than apartments. And many other apartment communities are right next to the cayce and parkway terrace projects. East Nashville is a fun place but it can also by the hood.

Riverchase, Litton (Copperstone Village) & Dellway Villa are low income. Dellway is in the Maplewood area.

What apartment communities are in the Cayce & Parkway Terrace?

A quick search on google shows that Roberts Park, CWA plaza, New Addition, Fatherland Square, and East River Place are all within 1 block of the cayce homes and parkway terrace projects.

edit: There is also the Strouse House complex. Not really close to the projects though. I have only been there one time but I saw some really ghetto people hanging outside of the complex. Would not live there.

Robert Park and CWA Plaza are part of the projects. Where is Fatherland Square?

East River Place is being replaced by new housing, but still low income.

So what is the OP's exact options? I think there are a couple of apartments in decent areas (East of Gallatin) but I don't know much about them. But judging from most (if not all) the apartments I listed, I would think twice about any apartment in EN as of right now. Maybe something in Inglewood?
