Nevada will mandate a state income tax some time in the next 2 years (you heard it here first!).
The politicians are all money-grubbing shills for the big money interests (gaming, mining, etc.).
John "Q" will pay (until it hurts).

No way. This is one of the most absurd posts I've ever seen in a forum. The state, that makes their tax friendly stance to attract residents and business, is going to destroy the only thing it really has going for it to anyone outside of gaming? Brilliant! Are they going to ban gambling, smoking and brothels too?

Nonsense. It is in fact impossible. Takes two legislative sessions to amend the constitution.

For any NV legislator to vote for an income tax will cause an immediate truncation of their career. There are no exceptions.

PLUS a vote of the people. Until the only voters are public employees, there will be no state income tax in Nevada.

Default Would introducing an income tax be good or bad for the state?

On one hand it could give the state extra funding for public needs. On the other hand it may slow population growth or even business growth.

I'm not too keen in politics, but maybe the ideal medium is to introduce a relatively innocent looking income tax (.5% or 1%) to get it approved without resistance. Then, once people are used to filing 2 returns, increase the tax to a healthy level

Nope, it would destroy us. Once you give them an inch, they will take a mile. An innocent little tax would be continuously raised before you know it. Soon enough, we would be the hell hole California or New York is.

I also agree. The minute a tax is introduced in NV...it will no longer be NV.

Just curious, LVD...have you ever been to NY? (not arguing the financial mess here...just wondering if you've ever been)
