FWIW - Socialism is an alternative to a unfettered capitalist economic system. As the latter has never existed because of the monopoly business domination I prefer more government controls on business and government ownership of natural monopolies such as utilities and transportation facilities. Socialism also protects most individuals from the ravages of sickness and, in some cases, jut bad luck.

Most true socialists don't mind being called what they are. As far as the part that I bolded in your quote, I work with two Russians and two contractors from Russia, they greatly disagree with your assessment of socialism.
