Hello, we live in Pittsgrove Township, Salem County, and we are at a loss as to how to overcome our internet issues.

We would like to get Verizon FiOS, but it hasn't come to our area yet. Instead of being offered the FiOS "Triple Play", they said we were eligible for "Double Play". I don't know what that means, but it doesn't sound like their high speed internet.

We currently have Comcast, but the speed and dependability of the connection has been very poor since Hurricane Sandy. It would stand to reason that service troubles might have arisen in the wake of Sandy, but no one at Comcast will confirm that there are any infrastructure problems related to the storm that are causing our slow internet.

So, we are faced with slow, slow and sometimes non-existent internet connectivity, and there doesn't seem to be anything else Comcast can recommend about the situation. Our modem is new and our Wifi Airport is new and both are checking out fine. We just keep suffering from intermittent slow or no internet on all the machines in the house.

Are there any other ISPs who offer phone / tv / internet in the SJ area who are reliable and offer good service? Thanks.

Comcast is just about as dependable as they get. its the largest, most richest cable company with the most resources.

Thanks. We like Comcast, but we are baffeled by the poor service post-Sandy.

We understand that a lot of infrastructure was damaged, but Comcast is saying that isn't the problem. In fact, they keep telling up we have no problem, yet we are constantly loosing signal.

Has anyone else experienced internet issues, Post-Sandy? Thanks.

Have you had a technician come out to your house to try and diagnose the problem?

OP, I live in Logan and we have had zero problems pre, during or post Sandy with our Comcast service. I'd highly recommend calling them and getting a tech out to take a look. The internet connection part of Comcast is more sensitive to line issues then the TV part. So, your TV can be working fine, but your internet have issues. It may be as simple that you had slight damage to your lines or water intrusion. Either way, they will fix it for free unless it is damage to lines inside your house.

As for alternatives there really aren't any out there in our area. Verizon will sell you a "double play", but it is not FiOS. You will basically get a traditional phone line and a DSL, which will be significantly slower then even the most basic Comcast service. In some markets they also offer a "triple play" in non-FiOS areas that adds DirecTV to the traditional phone service and DSL, but they are actually separate contracts.

Basically, if you want high speed internet your only real choice is Comcast for that area. I have friends who live in Alloway and they have no cable lines out there, so they use DirecTV for TV, cell phones for calls and then they added a cellular router in their house that uses a 3G/4G connection attached to their Verizon account. It works great and is the fastest internet they can get out there, but it's still nowhere near the speed of Comcast and they have to watch out for going over their data limits.
