I'm curious, why aren't you looking in Pennsylvania outside of Philly? Also, Delaware might not be a bad option. 55 and 42 are awful...plus you get the sales tax, the income tax, the property tax of NJ. Look on the bright side though, you'd get 'the best politicians money can buy'.

We moved to Medford Lakes. I knew about the area from growing up in Mt. Laurel and going to high school with fellow residents. We bought a 1960s rancher, that is one-of-a-kind, and loved the town. It is tight knit, they have their own summer camp, swimming, canoeing, activities, etc. Schools are very good to excellent.
That might have been true a few years ago for Woolwich. They have had canoeing for years now at Lake Narraticon (which is technically in Swedesboro). Swimming isn't available unless you're friends with your neighbor who potentially has either an above ground pool or even in-ground pool. Schools are very good. We see and talk to our neighbors at least a couple of times a week. However if we choose not to we don't have to, since our lots are 1 acre or better in our immediate area. They're also looking to finally build the stores right off the main road (Route 322). That should finally help to keep our taxes somewhat under control.

South Jersey is like a totally different state compared to North Jersey. It is alot more rural and has a good bit of forest down there.

I grew up in North Jersey and summered at the Jersey shore all my life. I moved to Maryland 20 years ago and still summered at the shore. I moved to Charlotte a year ago (and still summered at the Jersey shore) and can't say enough about it. If you are looking for a brand new home in that range you have soooo much to pick from. The place is clean, new, friendly and housing is cheap!!!! The majority of transients here are from Jersey. This is a whole new South. Get rid of the "Red Neck" images.
Go with the wife on this one, you won't be sorry!!!! And I LOVE the Jersey Shore.
