Remember when Paulie Walnuts' mom went to the Assisted Living facility and was shunned by "the girls" because she took her teeth out? The director said the place was "High School for the Geriatric Set". LOL (hopefully someone here watched The Sopranos)
My mom lived in a 55+ community in Columbus NJ and while she had a nice set of friends, she did find it hard to break in at first, and she was a very social person (she was always at the clubhouse, looking for card games, going on the organized trips, etc). Unfortunately you'd think it'd be easier the older you get, but it usually isn't so.
i don't know the builder name but the development is called Homestead at Mansfield. I don't believe there's new construction going on anymore, this development has been around since 1986.
actually, there is new development but it appears to be not as active as it used to be. it's a nice place.
The clique-ishness and the restrictiveness sound like they could be a problem in some cases. I'd hate that.
I own 2 dogs and I bet pets are looked down upon in some places too. We're on young side for these places anyway (I'm not 55 yet) and my husband, who is 55 still works and is not retired. DeLuca has built the nicest homes of the ones we've looked at. KHov's are kind of poorly built and many of their pre existing homes in developments seem to be for sale. For Sale signs are forbidden by "The Rules", the realtor that took us around Smithville told us that many were for sale. Red Flags went up for us as far as KHov was concerned.
Thanks for the links. Printed everything out for when / if my neighbor decides to do this. He's a healthy 84, with a bilevel that's getting too much for him.

Besides the link, go ahead and order the book, it's free and has more 55+ listed than the website.

Thanks, since he's not ready yet, I was getting info together for when he is. I'll print the book page out too, will speak to him to see if he wants to do that.
my grandfather had lived in a nice 55 + community in deptford, nj. Located not even 1 minute away from the deptford mall. He recently died and now my dad is trying to sell it. Please e-mail me at v3kelikei@aim.com if interested and I will tell him.
