We are looking at a house in River Vale. Can anyone tell me a little bit about the area? I know the schools are good. Are there a lot of young families there? Is is a competitive town? I know there is no train, so how do most people commute to nyc?

Most people use the Hillsdale or Woodcliff lake train station , the rest use a bus. Its a very nice town , great schools ...there trying to make a small downtown area.

River Vale is a great, small town. Was on Money Magazine's 2007 Best Places to Live.

Like Nexis said, they are trying to build up a little downtown. Whole Foods type market coming soon. In that same plaza, there is a newer restaurant, Armando's which is good. 7-11 opened back in October (to some opposition).

You are right, schools are good. There is some competitiveness, but I wouldn't say its as bad as some other towns. Lots of things to do for the kids. They have a Halloween costume parade, Easter Egg Hunt, etc.

Taxes a little on the high side. You have to pay extra for garbage collection.
