Usually, guilty pleas go ahead of not guilty pleas
That's the way it's set up in the state's Court Rules. A amended charge is foolish. Where do you go from a $85 no point summons? A $250 no point summons?

I think the no point summons is more than $250 and when I went to look at changing my insurance companies they still took that under consideration (and charged me more). It's called the unsafe driver and you can only use it 2x in 5 years. I used it once - plead down.
This place was weird (where I went recently). Normally they allow you to meet with the procecuter first - but I didn't see that at all. Maybe they take a break after I was done and I just left too early.
This website says that it's a $250 surcharge ON TOP of the fine of $150 ish... So I think even by hiring the lawyer I came out BETTER in the long run.

"Unsafe Driving" is like a $400 fine after all the fees and cost of the ticket. I never agree to UD. That is such a lousy plea. I have plead to "Impeding the Flow of Traffic". Now that's a nice one...something like $45 and no points. Hard to get a Prosecutor to agree to that amended charge, but it can be done.
That's what I got! It was like $45 then another $45 for the court fees. I am such a nervous wreck when it comes to talking to authorities so I took the expensive way out of hiring a lawyer.

You hired an attorney and got "impeding the flow"?
did you do a California stop, I did it on 1&9 and got a 140$ ticket, I payed, but evidently there is a class action lawsuit against red light ticket companies in certain towns, now I'm part of that and hopefully will get back some of my money soon!

Recently, a settlement of that lawsuit was approved, and according to news articles on the topic, you might be paid as much as $8.50!

Yup. It would have been a 4 point violation I think (illegal turn). I wanted to make sure I got out of the court house quickly. I have plead the unsafe driving violation ($400) before with a prosectutor and haven't had success with a 'better' judgement.
I know many other people may have been able to do it themselves but I was taking time off of work to go to court... The total cost was less than $300 and I got out of court very quickly. If I stayed I may have gotten the unsafe driving but I would have been there for at least another hour if not more. Would I do it again, yes. Like I said, I'm a mess when it comes to talking to authorities...
PS the lawyer asked me if unsafe driving was ok, I said, no get me something better. It took about 2 seconds and she came over and said, yes are getting impeding flow of traffic. It didn't take her long to get that vs the unsafe driving.

You got a good deal. Impeding the flow of traffic is no points and an inexpensive ticket. It is just unfortuate you had to hire an attorney to get that ticket. Probably cost you close to the same an unsafe driving ticket.
