What weapons are you LEGALLY allowed to carry in NJ for self-defense? (Paterson: neighborhoods, to buy)

My relationship with police is simple. Don't talk to much. I am clear that trying to having a conversation with an on-duty cop is pointless. To them every-one is a suspect.
I always have a knife in my pocket. I first started to carry a knife, around 13. Sometimes I use it as a tool, from cutting lunch to unlocking locks to dismantling mail-boxes to cutting duck tape. At some point there was a test "the blade should about the width of the palm". So it's like quarter inch longer. I never been in a situation where I had to act in self defense like that. I trained with the knife as well as with martial arts, it was a while ago and I no longer have those skills. Probably should take some kickboxing classes, it's a good workout. I think when I was younger I started to learn how to knock people out, but I got distracted (those darn women with their tight buts !). This blade is deep in my pocket, it is under my wallet and keys, so it takes a while to undig it.
The way I see it, the only point that advocates lessening gun control laws is the protection from tyranny, the right of people to rise against the government.... I do not think we need more guns to be safe. I think that we should have shooting ranges, where a person can go and shoot different guns, like one would go to play pool or bawling (They will give a choice of guns to shoot.)
But yes, just take some selfdefence classes. Make sure that allot of hot chicks are there.
We can have NJ Gun Control debates if you guys want, gun does not make you any safer...
What geographical area is the OP talking about ? Using Uber might be the most effective solutions in a good chunk of situations.
I hope they never allow concealed carry in NJ. Even though I do have a concealed carry permit in NC because it is more dangerous living here with all the nut jobs who have permits.
Be careful what you wish for in NJ because more legal guns means more murders, more accidental shootings, more kids getting access to dads gun and shooting a friend. This happens frequently in NC and not just the cities, stupid gun owners live everywhere. Even in NJ.
BTW when I travel back to NJ I leave my gun home and feel safer in NJ without a gun then I do in NC with a gun. It's all about your paranoia tolerance.
Those situations you mention are already in play as gun ownership is widespread. Far more than any survey pretends to reflect.
The murders of record are the work of gangs and committed in clusters, not equally distributed across the state.
Maine allows open and concealed carry and must be a bloodbath according to your predictions.
If the ganland murders in predictable place were to miraculously vanish, far more deaths would result from babies drowning in pools, pedestrians jay walking and home fires. the thousands killed and mained in auto accidents involving alcohol would far surpass the rare divorce gone bad, and 'accidental' shootings.
In academic theory, no guns, no one hurt by guns. sound theoretical argument. the theory falls flat when it hits the cold wind of reality.
Agree not everyone eligible should be walking around with a firearm in a holster.
To ban everyone is the classic liberal argument that only considers absolutes and never degrees. Because some eligible dumbasss or rogue cop shouldn't be carrying, it doesn't mean everyone should be banned.
I didn't expect such an immediately hostile response, because I grew up in a cop neighborhood and feel like I usually see eye-to-eye with them.
That's because you crossed the line. You thought for a minute your life was worth protecting, your not a cop! You need to give up and die at the feet of criminals!

It shouldn't be like this. I know it's NJ, but I'm sure that in other states like Texas the cop would have considered it a totally legitimate question. So, am I supposed to just be a victim? Again, I am asking about LEGAL items.
That's a legit question in 90% of the country. NJ,NY,CT,MA,CA,MD. Take them out of the equation and you do actually have constitutional rights believe it or not! The majority of states ARE gun friendly and don't pretend that law abiding gun owners are a danger to people which is why our fearless dictator has to ram his agenda through executive orders, seeing he can't get them passed otherwise. I moved out of the Northeast for that and many other reasons, but you need to stay safe. If you have to ask this question, then you know you may have a reason to fear harm. Don't let the ignorant convince you that YOUR the paranoid one, your not! Stay safe.
PS: There are a LOT more people in NJ with CC permits than most people think! It's kept very hush hush however. Same in NY. No shortage of people buddy buddy with the right people. Like the cop, SOME lives are worth protecting.

Here is another thing those states have in common, a core of citizen where education is far more important than who gets to be a part time citizen protector with their carry weapons.
It's right there in your post, that's where all the smart people live.

No, those are communist states where many people believe in the welfare state. That's certainly not smart.

I prefer the term "socialist" states, but we're basically saying the same thing. These are the states where people are most educated, which translates into these states being the most wealthy. The liberal/socialist mindset leads people to believe they should be spending their hard earned money supporting the dead weight of people who are uneducated and choose to do nothing to help themselves.

Oh I absolutely agree, I like nothing better than giving my hard earned money to people who quit school and then collect welfare. It's the American way.

yeah, the cop should give you his gun and let him take an uber. how dare someone want to be able to protect themselves.

Don't we also get the least back from the Feds? Maybe my definition of "welfare" is skewed.
(btw, I know you aren't arguing this, just responding in general).
