Perhaps the most memorable comments were uttered by someone in The Deep South, who shouted, "What are your kids' names? Are they named Pizza Ferraro and Spaghetti Ferraro?".
I worked with a guy whose last name was McWilliams. His son had moved to Georgia after college and gotten a job that involved sales and dealing with clients, and he told us that his son's employer advised him to use just "Williams" as his last name because the "Mc" would be a giveaway as to his Irish ancestry and Catholicism, and there were still too many places in the south where that would put people off. This was in the late 1980s.

While we have some rules about who someone can love,,, all people are totally free to express negative opinions about most anyone or even everyone. THAT is FREEDOM, we are nothing without freedom. Many sacrificed their lives for that freedom. To disallow that would be disrespectful to all.

You're changing the argument. No one argued over the right to say anything. The argument was whether or not it was a racist comment.

Precisely.
Mama had the constitutional right to say (or write) whatever she wanted, as long as she didn't advocate violence, or the overthrow of the government. That also gave her the right to trash her son's reputation via her clearly racist comments, but apparently mama couldn't think through the process sufficiently in order to see the potential fallout from her inability to restrain herself.

Does her son have similar prejudices?
Maybe yes, maybe no, but that question doesn't really matter because Mommie Dearest memorialized a message of racism that will not be easily eradicated in that community. As a result, her son might as well forget running again for public office in a community where his mother made offensive statements about a sizeable portion of the local populace.

The Europeans CREATED America, including all the advanced concepts that come with a civilized society. Conquest of new lands was the rule at that time, and it was the correct thing to do at the time. They IMPROVED what was here by IMPROVING the results of conquest, which was already here and being practiced by primitive indigenous warring tribes. European conquest was better than the pre-existing variant practiced by primitive tribes.

Too much revisionism these days, portraying a gentle unified culture of peace-loving innocents invaded by evil outsiders. It was anything but that, in fact it was the opposite of that. So let's stop vilifying European conquest of North America. It is responsible for creating the greatest country in the history of the planet and our species: America.
Good grief, I am in complete agreement with you!

ok, I'll concede that my perception was a bit off.

Yes, they are obeying the letter of the law, by having an English equivalent on their signage, but by making it as small as legally allowed, they certainly aren't complying with the intent.

It's written in English twice, and once in Korean. I don't see the problem here.

I'm honestly surprised there's only 40% Koreans in Pal Park. It feels closer to 75% to me.

I will leave it to Mr. Rotundo whether he wants to give Mommie Dearest a dope slap.
While I would never advocate senior abuse, Ex-Mayor Rotundo might now want to contemplate whether his mother's loose lips led to his defeat.
