I've lived in NJ for over 60yrs and have not been in a situation where I felt I needed a gun.

I'm guessing you never had a fire in your home, but you probably have smoke detectors, right? Most people will never need them but they can save your life when you do.
About 10 years ago a friend of mine had his home broken into. In the middle of the night 4 guys pulled up and kicked right through his front door. This guy is married with 2 kids and these thugs just marched right into his house like it was their own. He and his family were completely defenseless. Soon after that incident he went out and bought a gun. Who knows if the gun would have made any difference in that situation, but at least from now on he can sleep at night.
Most people are reactive rather than proactive and base their opinions only on personal experience. Why would I install a security system in my home if it has never been broken into? Why would I buy a gun if I have never been in a situation where I would need it? That's they type of logic most people follow.

Why cant NJ has more lax guns laws? PA has pretty good guns laws. Who are the idiots that keep voting against? I have a feeling it is rich people, and women.
Hmm. The only friend of mine I am sure owns a gun is a widow who keeps a .357 Magnum in her house.
Oh no, wait. I do know a married couple who have a number of guns. They like to go to the firing range.
But why "rich people"? You'd think they'd be the first to keep a gun in the house to protect their stuff from being stolen.
I've felt that way before as well, but generally, where you live is probably about 10%-the other 90% is what you make of it. Not sure what part of Sussex County you're in, but down here in Hunterdon, I have enough land to do pretty much what I want, taxes are reasonable ($9,800 for 2600SF house on 2 acres, private road), and the schools and the people are great. I have no neighbors and live 1/4 mile off of the road, hunt and shoot on my own land, ride ATVs, raise animals, etc...but next weekend we'll be bringing our daughters to Radio City to see the Rockettes. Its the best of both worlds but there's a price to pay for that.

I love it down here, and I never felt the need for a gun even in Bergen where I grew up.
The people are much better down here and the housing prices and taxes are much better than anywhere north.
Of course I would prefer not to have to pay taxes for schools since I dont have and would never have kids, but its part of the bigger picture.
We dont have an immigration problem here in Mercer.
I wont stay here for the rest of my life, but its great for now.

The inconvenient truth is that the odds are double one of your friend’s children would have gotten their hands on the gun and an accidental tragedy would have occurred versus your buddy shooting the bad guys in his home. Horrible and traumatic experience for him and his family nonetheless. A big scary (but well-trained) dog along with security doors and security film on the windows are better bets for keeping the family safe.

It opens up another discussion that would take me way off the thread subject which I would still have an argument why that stat. I degress.
However for any American Loving Patriot, what's happening in NJ is IMO criminal and part slaveryto its residents as the politicians will see to it to do more of the underlined because they will always be in power here.
Unfortunately, gun laws don't do anything to protect us from crazy people doing crazy things with guns. If a person wishes to cause harm they are going to get their hands on a gun no matter what. As you can see, strict guns laws have done absolutely nothing to stop the gun violence in our urban areas. If anything, strict gun laws inhibit law abiding citizens from protecting themselves.
I agree with you in a way. The only reason why mass shootings never really happened in NJ yet is because we don't have the "crazy people that might erupt". Or, we probably do, but their brain never erupted yet. Also, on the news, it is common to see people commit crimes outside their own state, which someone could unexpectedly do to NJ one day (So many out of staters come to NJ although NJ is not a touristy place).
Hey, I resemble that remark (well, unfortunately not the rich part). You’ve been posting a lot in the Vegas forum as you’re considering moving there. Hate to burst your bubble but Vegas is no libertarian paradise - it’s becoming increasingly blue - the governor, both senators and three out of four congressional seats - the only R congressional seat is in the northern part of NV. I’m hoping NV’s gun laws become more in line with NJ’s although that isn’t likely. Utah or the Deep South might be more to your liking (in all seriousness) - NV is being invaded by liberals from both coasts
I think the people who arent liberals or cant stand the liberals are moving to NV, and dont want to make it liberal.
