Hello,

I hope that you and family continue to be safe and sound.

I’m looking for a home in Monmouth County and have combed through numerous posts in this group. I’m still having numerous questions and greatly appreciate of facts and insights from the residents in this county.

I live in Piscataway and really like the community there - average schools, many Rutgers profs and students live there, friendly neighbors watching out for each other, average tax. So, hopefully I can find a similar town in a Monmouth County as well. We like to be close to the water and want to move to Monmouth County and retire there. Specifically, I’m searching for a town with the following criteria:

1) 2-3 bedrooms with price about $300-400K individual home
2) No septic, No well water, Not in a flood zone area
3) schools ratings of 4-6 with the rating scale of 1-10.
4) diverse and friendly neighbors, watching out for each other, long-term neighbors.
5) Low tax in the county

Does Howell fit the above descriptions? What other towns fit the above descriptions?

Thanks much!

I don't know anything about school ratings in towns, but for the other four items, I think you can find that in Howell.

I think Howell is spot on minus the diversity.

Howell is 90% Caucasian and more than 50% Catholic. Parts off the town are quite nice and the parks and recreation programs are very good.

Ha, the only people I know who live in Howell are black. Two coworkers, one married, no kids, another widowed, two adult/college age kid, and the other is a young family, friends of my BIL's son. Not doubting what you say.

Howell is a good choice. I would also recommend Neptune Twp., Tinton Falls, Shrewsbury, Eatontown, and Ocean Twp. These would be great middle-of-the-road suburban communities for you in Monmouth County!
