It is either because intelligence really is genetic, or those rich people are just making sure their kids make the grade eventhough they really didnt
I think there's a third point- the people in those towns actually give a **** about the education their kids receive, and push them to succeed, while in the poorer areas, the kids don't have that type of support.
Great point, totally correct. In Moorestown, the kids are under trememdous pressure to succeed academically and they often do. That's why it has among the highest % of students in AP classes in the state. And also why Moorestown Friends with combined SATs of 1,900 (new scale) is one of the highest in the state - private or public.
Top quartile 1-79
Observations - Surprised to see Ridgewood up at 7 and Cranford at 29 (up so high). IH & Ramapo then follow. CG/Verona/W.Essex/Caldwell plus Rutherford also make this tier.
Second quartile 80-158
FL, Heights, and Montclair top this tier plus Saddle Brook 'makes the cut' too.
Third: 159-237
PV (Little Falls) 170. Lynhurst and NA, 182 and 198 respectively. Wallington and Lodi, 200 and 219 respectively. I see Hackensack posted 184, the Comets need to up the #'s.
Bottom: 238-316
Poor ole Garfield (aka City of Champions) sinking down at 285!! Boilermakers need to get those numbers up, uP, UP. Rahway and Linden rated 249 and 299 respectively, shocked be because I did not think those HS were that bad.

I think you need to take some of these rankings with a large grain of salt. I think the tiers are OK but the absolute numbers are not. And there's a certain reputational moxy that isn't accounted for. No offense to anyone but a kid taking AP classes in Moorestown is going to have an easier time getting admitted to MIT than the kid from Cranford.

Would you explain why it is your opinion that a kid from Moorestown has a better chance than a kid from Cranford?
