Hmm. You might want to reconsider moving to a worse area.
Union City is the pits.. High Crime, poor schools, very expensive. Your only alternative is to live away from it like Montclair..But..your commute will be long.
If I were you, I would look for other work besides Union City. Its not worth the extra pay.
If you're on the bus, no, there's no individual toll. In your car, yes, of course there is!
Thanks! Just curious. After college I plan on moving to Jersey, in the interest of money, and trying to work in Manhattan. So if you didn't have a car...would you walk to the bus station to get picked up? And when you get on the bus your fee to get into Manhattan is what?? Sorry, so many questions...all just unfamiliar to me...

If you want to get by without a car, your best bet is a walkable neighborhood close to the PATH or the NYC subway.
Are you renting or buying ? If you're renting, you might find that you can get something decent in parts of Manhattan (e.g. Washington heights, Harlem) and spend no more than you would in NJ.
If you're just out of college and renting, you should look into Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Jersey City.

That sounds great! I really would LOVE more than anything to live in Manhattan, but assumed there was nothing affordable there. By the time I move I will have my degree and that will hopefully open up a LOT of doors. I just don't want to end up on the streets or something because I went and got some high dollar, ostentatious apartment that I couldn't afford in the long run.
PS- would there be a lot of demand for new videographers in Manhattan? I would like to do it big, like movies and tv, but I know I will have to build up to that. Would you know whether or not finding a job in that particular profession would be easy...?

Always check, don't assume. I just checked craigslist (and would recommend you do the same). even the Upper East side has has studios for ~$1000.

No idea, I think you need to find inquire about that elsewhere. I know there are people who work in that industry who live/work in Manhattan, but I don't know anything about the business.
Original Poster - is your husband's job in Union, NJ ... or Union City, NJ? Two totally different towns...
