Parking is pretty easy in Cape May in my experience. It's a bit of a sleepy town compared with most of the rest of the Jersey shore. The beach doesn't get nearly as crowded but it is nice. But honestly, most of the charm of Cape Map is in walking/biking/driving around and looking at the old houses, staying in a bed and breakfast, going out to dinner and those sorts of things. I got married there and it couldn't have been a nicer place.
Wildwood and Cape May are completely different. Cape May is a charming, Victorian town with beautiful architecture. The highlight of Cape May is walking around and looking at the archicture, browsing shops, etc. It's a gorgeous town. I wouldn't go there for a beach day though. There's not really a boardwalk either, although there's a little area that pretends to be a boardwalk.
Wildwood is a hopping town with the boardwalk and beach being the big attractions. Wildwood's boardwalk is about 2 miles long and packed with restaurants (mostly pizza joints), ice cream places, candy shops, t-shirt shops, games, piers with rides...etc. It's like a big carnival. The beach is great in Wildwood...it's expansive and free. It's fun to sit on the beach during the day and walk the boards at night. There's a place where you can get showers (pay) at 25th & the boardwalk.
So it really depends on what type of vibe you are looking for. Quaint, charming, strolling = Cape May. Beach, boardwalk, excitement = Wildwood.

There is also Wildwood Crest which is adjacent to Wildwood. Wildwood Crest is more residential with a few small hotels and B&Bs. We would go there when my daughter was younger to enjoy the quieter beaches but still be near the activity of Wildwood. Plus, Cape May was a short drive away where you could spend a day exploring the sights there.
I am 43 years old, have no kids and I LOVE going to Wildwood. You don't need kids to enjoy it. You just need to still have a firm grasp of your inner child.
