New Jersey Political & Government News | New Jersey Statehouse - NJ.com

Evidently Christie won counties normally won by Democrats, such as Gloucester and Middlesex.

However, Corzine still won Cumberland County. There must be something in the drinking water in that county. Those of you who have visited there know what I mean.

But still:

Newark
Christie: 3,269; Corzine: 35,669; Daggett: 542

Irvington
Christie: 456; Corzine: 9,058; Daggett: 90

Camden
Christie: 878; Corzine: 5,029; Daggett: 124

Trenton
Christie: 1,378; Corzine: 8,730; Daggett: 283

In Livingston:
Livingston
Christie: 4,827; Corzine: 4,351; Daggett: 570 (Christie won Livingston?? Holy $h&t!)

Not only Cumberland, but did you take a look at Passaic County? Although Paterson is not listed, i'm completely shocked but have to say proud that county stepped up to the plate. I'm really shocked that he lost Bergen County though, although by a small margin, just shocked.

I'm really surprised so many NJ counties were in favor of Christie, even if by a small margin. I guess people in this state really were fed up with Corzine's BS.. I would think Cumberland would be filled with more Republican voters than Democratic, so that's kind of surprising to me personally.. I guess it's no surprise that counties with the poorest cities in the state like Camden and Mercer would be largely in favor of Corzine, but it's still weird to me to see such a contrast by county based on this map.

All of the taxPAYERS in Passaic and even Essex counties seemed to "get it." The tax CONSUMERS of course voted for Corzine. As for Bergen, that's mostly suburban, right? Weird that they would go for Corzine. Is it a case of "We're ultra-liberals from the city who moved here after we had kids" symdrome?

Bergen is really two different counties: Northern Bergen and Southern Bergen. I can't find town breakdowns for this election, but I remember in the presidential race, the northern part mostly went for McCain with the exception of Ridgewood (which would be your "latte liberal" crowd) and the southern part went for Obama.

Ooops, there is a town by town breakdown in the first link of this thread. You can see the towns and how they vary in Bergen County based on Northern or Southern.

Best post I've seen in a while, Dan.

This election was based on a combination of many factors, but foremost I see this as a STRONG repudiation on the part of suburban NJ of the corruption, crime, welfare, and subsidization of NJ's rundown urban cities.

To have an election where Newark, Camden, Trenton, Paterson, and Irvington don't get their way? The feeling is divine.

slow down for a sec, check out Passaic county again. Not sure why Paterson is not listed, but i would be very interested to see how close it was but more importantly how many votes did the Independent get.
