When I'm in Las Cruces the Organs are mezmerizing, I'm drawn to them.

They are omni present, I can't help but looking over at them,
definitely not your "average" mountains.

And they look amazing on "both" sides, abit different but equally stunning
viewing them from Tularosa Basin/Aguirre Springs side.

Cookes Peak and Sierra Blanca are IMO great too.

Default Tres Hermanas as seen from Organ - 1985

My folks moved to Organ from Tulie around '71. When the "magic hour" rolled around one evening in '85, it looked like everything else was lining up too. I grabbed my camera and tripod and climbed on the roof, waiting for this shot.

Last December I moved my mother out of state to live with my sister; she's over 80 and getting tired. I gave her a framed 8X10 of Tres Hermanas which she hung in her bedroom. She looked at those mountains every day for 40 years and never tired of them.

I believe that what draws one to like some landmarks over others depends on their life experiences mostly.

Enjoy your peaks! Life's too short...

Default Organs from Organ - '75

I lived in Organ with my folks after I was discharged from the Navy in '75. The "magic hour" appeared around noon this day. It was shot through the window of the one room "apartment" on their property.

Default One more shot of the Organs

My ma, musing by the window of my abode-1975. I imbibed here too (in a couple of ways!) until 1976; jobs were hard to come by back then.

Color photography has obviously enriched our lives - who would want to go back to b&w TV? But I'm always struck when I see a well-composed b&w photo with an interesting subject how much more I get drawn into the photo and back story. With color, it seems like you end up mainly appreciating the view. Good b&w photos, at least for me, draw me much more into the scene. Doesn't viewing this photo make you instantly wonder what she was thinking about?
