Im assuming your comment was very sarcastic Andrew. I would not be here if I wanted to go to Afghanistan. If its so tempting, why don't you make the move?
that's where i'm actually at now, Hirat, Afghanistan- Camp Stone. No, my comment was not sarcasm. I'm not even going to explain the lifestyle here, but people who take the gig end up doing a good 5 year rotation, you do the math, some have been doing it since the invasion of iraq.
Evian, you may be right. I think that a problem is that when you're not located in NYC or in the surrounding areas, employers are less apt to consider you for an open position.
Yeah I know what you mean mate. When I went to Aus, I had to be there to get the job. THat's my plan at the moment, save like crazy and decide at the end of next year. If I decide to come, I will have some savings to rely on

By Aus do you mean Australia? With Oz, you can apply for a work holiday visa in no time at all, get a flight, stay in a travellers hostel for a couple of weeks whilst applying for jobs. If you find one, you can work there for 6 months.
No such visa exists in America, you can stay for up to 90 days but aren't legally allowed to work so you won't be able to apply for a job and hope your employers sponsor you to stay once your contract ends.
Yeah it was Australia and I did the same exact thing as you said, just for the experience. I know America is different. I've applied for the lottery, maybe I will strike lucky, if not, will try to find some kind of sponsorship although I know it will be very tough, but hey, there is not limits in hopes and dreams

I'm in the same boat, 8 years IT experience (mainly with SQL Server) and wanting to work elsewhere (UK resident). I'm going over to Oz but would love to spend 6 - 12 months renting in NYC but to be honest the reality is that it probably would never happen.
To say the USA is built on immigration, its very hard for residents of one of its supposedly biggest allies to actually move there!
Yeah for a UK citizen Australia is easier than the States. You are not even on the diversity lottery programme, so its extra difficult. But I beleive good people will manage to get sponsored at the end. It just takes lots of conviction and patience
