Just thought I would share as an Aussie expat here in NYC. A new bakery called Pie Face opened last week coincidentally on Australia day. They are on the corner of 53rd and Broadway. Went today with my husband and kids and love it. If anyone is Australian out there its great to get your Aussie fix.
I have all my New Yorker friends trying them out soon too. Also be sure to try a sausage roll also!!
OP, there's a place you might want to check out in Brooklyn: Dub Pies on the corner of 16th and Prospect Park West. Very easily accessible via transit.
After your pie why not head to the Sunburnt Cow on Ave C in Alphabet City. There's a few Aussie blokes behind the bar and there's Coopers Green on tap.
We have a Sunburnt Calf on the UWS too. I still have to get there with friends.I love NYC and all its cultures so dont tend to just stick with Australians. However I really enjoyed the pie today.
Glad to see some of the posts are gone !
I was in love with the tinned Irish BEEF AND KIDNEY and the STEAK AND MUSHROOM Pies (Tipperary the most common brand) and then Mad Cow Disease prompted the U.S. to ban all beef products from the British Isles.
I think the ban is still on, no doubt as a result of U.S. beef ranchers' lobbying efforts.
I'll try the Australian type and see if I like it as much.
I just saw Tuck Shop on The Cooking Channel. The episode was about pies. Mmm, pies...
