Hi... I wanted to ask a quick question plz.... I moved to NYC in queens county from Maryland 2 months ago... I contacted my landlord through a post displayed at a local grocery store that he is renting a basement so I paid him & moved in with my wife... Later I lost my job but somehow I paid him the rent.. Now recently I found out that the apartment is illegal to rent.. I talked to the landlord & he asked me to move out immediately .. As I wrote that I lost my job n I'm looking for the new one... I have a family ... He gave me the time till 15th of oct 2012... & I don't have enough money to find a new place immediately ... We do not sighted any lease .. Everything was cash ... No receipt or proof that I paid him rent or that I'm a tenant there accept me & my family belongings & the house keys & some neighbors who I talk to sometime... What can I do... I need a month or two to get another place.. Am I gonna be evicted immediately? Plz help me ....
Another thing ... The landlord son threatened me by making somebody call me as a member of mafia .... N one time as a lawyer .. N saying if I don't move out ill b dealt harshly n ill b responsible for my consiquencis .... He also came n took all the bulbs out ov my basement n cut the Internet n cable that I paid for
