Times have changed however. I'm an Italian American and I never judged anyone by their ethnicity. I'm an avid fan of hip hop. I remember when hip hop first started.
Being a fan of hip hop doesn't mean you can't be a racist! It sounds ridiculous for you to even mention that. By the way, hip hop does not equal Black.
Racism is stupid. Ironicaly enough I will say something that -can- be viewed as incredibly racist to prove how stupid it is.
People are complaining about how Bay Ridge can be a racist, and therefore, bad neighborhood because there are few Black people there.
Yet, in all Black neighborhoods like Harlem, Brownsville, that section of the Bronx north of E. Gun Hill Rd or, Bed-Stuy, stuff is all screwed up, poor, dilapitated or some other state of obvious disrepair (aka "bad")
Y'know how many problems I've had in each place? None!
Live where you can afford, no more, no less. Don't be a D-Bag (I'm a hothead but, I'll always offer help with furniture/ stairs etc...) and, always watch your 6.
^ what does hip hop equal? blacks invented hip hop, smart guy.
There are plenty of other music or musical styles done by Black people, and not all Blacks are into hip hop. Not all Black musicians are into hip hop. So hip hop again does not equal Black. For that matter, not all hip hop artists are Black.
^ the italians didn't do marches and
that's mainly what got them upset
about large groups of blacks coming
into their neighborhoods at one time.
it was as if they were blaming the whole
community for something one or two
people did to one or two black people.

Perhaps, but the racist jeers the marchers got were a bit much:
Asian men might be a bit more common. Asians in country music would be even odder. Had a conversation about that a few weeks ago (with someone who's East Asian).
I thought the thread was about Bay Ridge? Also you produced a NY Times article from 1989?? Honestly, this whole thread is dumb. Are their racists in Bay Ridge? Oh yeah, also in every sector of this City. From Brownsville to Riverdale to Totenvillle, to Spanish Harlem. Unfortunately their are always going to be corrupt and racist people. Man is not perfect.
