lol... I see African-Americans in there from time to time. Don't know what they know about Jewish food...

grosvenor--put it this way I used to live on Post Rd, a block off Broadway. i got a view of private homes and didn't see many people. when i moved to Broadway 8 years ago i see more street action. there were always some African Americans but the Albanians may be more recent. when i moved here in 1991 there were a lot of Spanish and Irish
Interesting... Where did the Irish go though? Sounds like they just went away like a fart in the wind.

i guess they go to different places.

my grandmother's Irish neighbor who was living in Netherland Gardens when she moved there in the late 60's, was still living there in 1993. some stay, some leave for wherever. if i had to guess many in N Riverdale in the 250's and 260's in the private homes probably stay a long time

those who have the means to go, they go. Riverdale is nice, but it's not perfect enough to want to stay forever unless you have a really nice house with a big yard. there is a small section in N Riverdale over by Spencer Avenue off Mosholu Avenue by 259th-260th that has some nice homes, one home looks like an italian style Villa made of stucco--i could see staying there for a long time, it's real nice

A lot of the Irish who were in NRiverdale(and Norwood) in the early to mid 90s went back to Ireland when the Celtic Tiger started to roar. Now that the Irish economy has tanked they are having a much harder time getting back in than in times past and the ones who do come over are mostly going to Woodlawn ,where they are well protected and can easily find employment.

I always thought there were more Irish-Americans in North Riverdale than Irish at least thinking in recent years anyway. Question: Where were you at before moving to the Bronx and what brought you there?

I am sure there were more Irish American than Irish but the off the boat contingent was quite substantial. There were apartment complexes in N Riverdale that advertised rentals in Irish papers only and were literally filled with them. Many of the 2 family houses were owned by Irish Americans but the upstairs apartments weRe rented out to their "cousins".
