You didn't waste any time with this thread. Note: I believe the city ended 2013 with 333 murders, a 20% drop from the former record low last year of 417. This record drop coincides with a 60% drop in S&F. In addition as of October 29, there were 849 shootings in New York City, a 23 percent drop from the same period in 2012, when there were 1,145 shootings.
I no longer believe that crime will rise sharply, but I do believe we will see an increase. The appointment of Bratton ensures that NYPD morale will rise and cops will continue to work, within the parameters set by De Blasio.
Bratton has certainly received a mandate from his boss to change the way business is conducted by the department. I believe he will find an effective way to balance the morale of the department against the demands of the people of the city.
Unlike others who frequent this forum, I take pride in being able to immediately and clearly admit when I'm wrong. I did not expect De Blasio to appoint someone like Bratton at all. His appointment completely changed my view on how this administration will continue to combat crime. I do believe that some of the policies De Blasio will order Bratton to end will cause a slight rise in crime, but not the doom and gloom that I previously figured we were in for.
The path this city takes going forward depends on how involved De Blasio gets with the operation of the NYPD. If he allows Bratton to make decisions within the basic mandates he certainly ordered, we should be okay.
Rather, I would say, NYers didn't waste any time creating the stats: Violence erupts as 2014 begins
"two people dead, six stabbed, eight shot and one pistol-whipped" all before breakfast.
The mayhem bounced back to the Bronx, where a 19-year-old man was shot once in the thigh at Valentine Ave. near E. 187th St. in Melrose at 5 a.m., police said
LOL. Belmont?
Perhaps the bullet richocheted a long, long way?
Fordham Heights ? Valentine isn't in either Belmont or Melrose.Valentine is kind of a notorious drug strip there I think.
