Doesn't look like it's going to be a big storm here in NYC.It looks like it will be a mostly eastern Long Island storm. The NYC media seems to be way over-reacting,as usual.

Every forecast I have seen predicts only 4 to 8 inches for NYC,some only 3 to 5, with the blizzard warning confined to eastern Long Island and Cape Cod.I guess it could end up worse but 4 to 8 inches of snow is really pretty mundane. Hardly deserving of a name.If they were predicting 12 to 18 or 18 to 24 I'd understand the hype but 3 to 5 or 4 to 8 ?
I find the forecasts rarely ever accurate. Either we get half the snow predicted, or double. If it turns out to be bad and we do get a great deal of snow, I'm anxious to see how deBlasio handles it, in terms of whether or not he will close school. Bloomberg was just so miserable in having never closed school no matter how bad the weather was. Let's hope our new mayor is different in this regard.

I'm expecting 4-6 in nyc.
As for preparations, honestly if your not driving and you live in an apartment there isn't much to worry about with snow. Just make sure you have enough food and water.
I stocked up on food and drinks. Bought rock salt for front steps, sidewalk, and driveway. Might walk to work on Friday.
